If you work at the mall, or somewhere else that has a huge, underground garage with multiple levels, then it can be frightening walking back to your car after work. If you don't happen to have assigned parking close to the elevator, then you could end up walking quite a distance alone in an empty lot. This is not a reassuring situation. However, there are things you can do to make it a bit safer. Here's a list of what you can do.
Get A Car Remote Starter and Keep It On Your Keychain
You don't want to fumble with your keys once you get to your car. You want to be as efficient as possible and get into your car and lock the doors. A great way to do this is to have a remote that will unlock the doors as well as start the engine. This way, you can turn the car on while your walking towards it and get the engine running. You can have the lights turn on, and then when you're a few steps away from the car, you can open the doors so that you can immediately get in and then lock the door. Just make sure that you get a remote starter that fits on your keychain. You don't want to keep it in your purse or bag and end up distracted looking for it while you're walking through the lot.
Put A Topper On Your Antenna
This suggestion is meant for people who don't have the ability to park in the same spot every night. If you are always in a different place, you might end up searching a bit for your car when you exit the elevator, especially if it's a large lot. So a topper for your antenna is a great way to get a visual clue from a distance. These stick up in the air and will let you see where your car is in a sea of other vehicles.
Consider Pepper Spray
Finally, if you are seriously concerned about your safety, perhaps there have been assaults or muggings in the garage, then you might want to get a small canister of pepper spray. You can find them sold in sporting good stores, or online. Many designs are marketed for joggers who are concerned about encountering wild dogs on their runs. These models will be small enough that you can carry them in your hand while walking to your car. This is a better option than a weapon like a knife or gun. With a gun there are permits, license requirements, and a whole other array of issues to deal with. It might not even be possible to get a CCW permit in your state. With a knife, you have to be close to your attacker, and the weapon could be used against you. The pepper spray will allow you to spray from a distance and then escape.

When you start a business, it's easy to forget about insuring your entire building and all of your inventory.
